We feel very fortunate of the fact that hospitality and our love for honest and down-to-earth South Tyrolean cuisine was virtually passed on to us at birth. After all, we grew up in our parents hotel and also grew up with the task of looking after our guests. However, both of us have experience from working away from the hotel too. The apprenticeship as a chef led to becoming "chef de partie" on the "Royal Princess" luxury liner. That alone extended our horizons in more ways than one ... And even so, the dream of owning our own hotel remained with us – even during the twelve years when we owned our own café with beautiful terrace in Merano.
The first step on the way to our own hotel came when we met in 1996. For our wedding in 1999, our parents gave us a fantastic plot of land in Hafling as a wedding present. Our dream finally materialised in 2004 and included some bureaucratic hurdles along the way. After just 8 months of construction, the small alpine residence was ready with its 16 rooms. It was no small feat and one thing had been clear to us all along: we had always wanted to offer luxury 5-star comfort!
We succeeded in this too. Our happiness was perfected with the birth of our son, Martin, in 2002. Six years later we dared to take a major step. We bought more land and came to a huge decision: our alpine residence should grow and we expanded the hotel to 30 high-quality rooms. At the same time we invested a lot in the quality on offer with the addition of new relaxation rooms, the room of tranquility, the alpine lounge and also the unique heated natural bathing pool which was built in 2009.
With the additional tasks that we had, a joy of the challenge grew in us and we were able to enjoy the growth itself. In 2011 we bought the adjoining 4,000m² of bordering land after some tough negotiations. The planning however got off to a rapid start. After searching long and hard, we finally found an interior designer who not only understood but also felt what we wanted to create for our guests. In just 6 months, the new Chalet Mirabell came into being!
Apart from the spa zone, garage for parking, separate sauna level, the Alpine Lifestyle Restaurant, show kitchen and spacious chalet-suites, infrastructure was doubled and we had a construction volume of 7,000m² to deal with.
Thanks to the efforts of our loyal and hardworking staff, we managed to ascend the list of top hotels in South Tyrol. We are looking forward to doing everything we can to keep our place in the list by facing all the upcoming challenges and developing our "little treasure" further.
